Feb 18th: Weare Giffard Village Hall. 100th Anniversary Celebratory Evening. 7.30pm. David Chaffe face to face with nature and his Barn Owl. After the interval for light refreshments and raffle, an audio visual wildlife presentation by Splinter Photographic. Admission £1 . Non members welcome.
Mar 20th: Meet at Steps Bridge near Dunsford on B3212 about 9 miles west of Exeter in the car park at 11.00am. Map ref: 803 883. To see display of naturally occurring wild daffodils. Level 2 mile walk. Bring packed lunch. On to Yarner Wood afterwards for woodland birds. Slightly hilly 2½ mile walk.
April 24th: Woodland migrants and the dawn chorus. Meet at the Horner Wood car park. Map ref: 899 455 at 6.45am. About 4 miles, fairly hilly. For the late risers, meet at the grassy area by the stream at Map ref: 895 430 at 10am. Pub lunch at Porlock Weir and, weather permitting, a trip to Chetsford Water afterwards.
May 15th: Discover Dunsdon – a National Nature Reserve featuring culm grassland and its associated fauna and flora. Meet at 12 o’clock at Map ref: 302 080 for a two hour level if uneven walk led by Gary Pilkington. Bring a packed lunch.
June 19th: Horsey Island – part of Braunton Burrows. Meet 11am at the riverside car park. Map ref: 484 354 which is about a mile SSW of Braunton village centre for a 4 mile level walk, led by Sue Frost. Bring a packed lunch.
July 24th: Rock Pools with Maureen Willis. Meet on Combe Martin beach at 2pm, after a pub lunch and/or before a cream tea.
Aug 14th: Meet at the Hunters Inn, Heddon’s Mouth. Map ref: 655 481 at 11.00am. Amalgamate into fewer cars and drive to Woody Bay and walk from Woody Bay back to Hunter’s Inn, hopefully for a cream tea, having had a picnic lunch on the way. 3 mile, hilly, but not steep cliff top walk.
Sept 18th: Tarka Trail and Dormice. Meet at car park, Map ref: 516 105 at 9.30am to see Janice Whittington’s Dormouse boxes. Fairly level 2 mile walk on the Tarka Trail. Pub lunch at Petrockstowe followed by Tamar Lakes.
Oct 9th: Red Deer on Exmoor. Meet at 11.00am at Hillhead Cross. Map ref: 851 404, which is about a mile north of Exford. Bring a packed lunch, suitable clothing and binoculars/telescopes. A walk of unknown length over possibly difficult terrain.
Nov 12th: Annual General Meal. Riversford Hotel, Limers Lane, Northam. 7 for 7.30pm. Ideas for next year please.
Dec 11th: Local winter birds at Isley Marsh, Yelland. Meet on the old power station road at Map ref: 483 322 at 12 midday. A level walk of at least a mile.
Jan 22nd
2006: Annual Birdwatching Bonanza. Meet at the Little Chef at Aller Cross, South Molton at 7.30am, if having the Olympic Breakfast. It not meet at 8.15am to amalgamate into fewer vehicles to go to the Exe Estuary. Packed lunch, hot drink and warm clothes.
