by members of the Hertfordshire & North Middlesex Branch of The British Naturalists' Association, Editor Bryan L. Sage (1966), Published by the Education Dept. Hertfordshire County Council.

This 186 page book shows the activities of a British Naturalists' Association branch at their best, for this exemplary study carried out on Northaw Great Wood, which is an ancient wood in Hertfordshire was carried out by branch members with detailed findings on different groups of fauna and flora, from trees and shrubs to lichens and mammals to woodlice. It is an invaluable assessment of this historic wood which includes checklists for example of over 300 fungi species and over 280 flowering species. It gives a benchmark to an ancient woodland's range of species in SE England.
