About the British Naturalists' Association

See what BNA does - click here

The British Naturalists' Association, the national body for naturalists, is one of the country's oldest Natural History organisations, founded in 1905. It is the only national body which promotes the study of all branches of natural history. Nationally the Association organises study days, field weeks and weekends, lectures and exhibitions. Each year the Blake Shield BNA Trust Fund (registered charity no. 1070540) established by BNA in 1998 holds a conservation competition for children and young people. At branch level there are talks and wildlife rambles where newcomers can learn and where experienced naturalists share their expertise.

The Association organises information services, publishes literature on natural history and has a lending scheme for magazines and other publications from all over the world. Its members contribute to an annual phenological report.

BNA's magazine "COUNTRY-SIDE" is sent to members twice a year and is also available to the general public in libraries. It covers all aspects of natural history, catering for both adults and youngsters.

BNA's second magazine "British-Naturalist" currently incorporated within "COUNTRY-SIDE" is for members only. It includes details of BNA surveys e.g. the phenological survey and of branch meetings.
